Pattern, Line, Designs!

The Kindergarten Artists learned about two art elements called Line and Pattern. After reading "Pattern Bugs", by Trudy Harris we learned that patterns can be used in reading, math, music, art, and many other places in school.

We then looked at how artists use line and pattern in their artwork and how to use them in our own artwork. Artists use line to make something look textured or to make someone look harder at their work. Artists can also use patterns to make designs and to show balance.
After practicing making patterns on the SmartBoard we realized that you can make patterns out of almost anything like: shapes, numbers, colors, letters, words, lines and the list goes on and on.
Some of the LINES we learned about are:
Straight, Curly, Road, Bumpy, Spikey, Ladder, Zigzag, Castle top, Diagonal, Wavy and Dotted.
Our Steps: First we drew lines and patterns in pencils, then traced it with crayons (creating more patterns with colors) and lastly we painted the whole picture with watercolor paints.
This watercolor resist created a beautiful piece of art which will be hung up in the hallway outside of the art room.
