DOTS!

Kindergarten Art 2013-2014

Inspired by the book "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds and by artist Wassily Kandinsky.

Young children and major, modernist painters have more in common than you might imagine. Shapes, color and a fresh way of seeing ordinary objects is a start. We've looked at artist Wassily Kandinsky and his painting of Concentric circles for inspiration! Peter Reynolds has written a wonderful children's book whose heroine in this story decides to paint dots. In fact, she paints a whole art show full of them. After reading "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds we learned that anyone can be an artist if they just make their mark and try their best! The Kindergarten artists drew dots and then painted dots using watercolor paints. This was a great practice for the shapes circle and oval. It was also a great introduction into the painting process.
